Join DVDCULT

DVDCULT is always looking for DVD reviewers. You can put your knowledge and expertise of cult films to the test and write DVD film reviews. Classics, horror, martial arts, spaghetti westerns, samurai cinema, exploitation films. The realm of cult films is wide open, so no matter your tastes we will print your review.

We cannot pay you, but you will have the satisfaction of knowing your fellow cult film enthusiasts will be reading your work! Please submit a DVD title that we do not currently feature; check out our DVDCULT Reviews section to see if the title you wish to submit a review for is listed. In the case of two writers submitting the same title, to be fair we will print the one we receive first. It is ideal if the reviews are accompanied by a cover scan in .gif or .jpeg format. We understand this may not be possible with all titles, so just email us to discuss it.

We also do not want to tell you how to write a review as it is a very personal and subjective thing. Everyone has their own style or their own take. But to keep things linear, we would like to suggest the following ratings scheme and format.

DVDCULT currently uses a ratings system based on 1 through 5 for all categories:

For those of you unsure of what to include in a DVD review, we offer the following suggestions. The review should be split up into two sections, film review and technical review. The film review section should include all pertinent related information including the films history, plot, stars, characters, creators, etc. The technical review section should include the video quality, audio quality, and DVD features, extras, packaging, etc. Please use this format as a guideline (again, these are only suggestions):

FILM REVIEW SECTION:

1st PARAGRAPH   A brief history or background on the film you are reviewing.
2nd PARAGRAPH A summary of the cast, characters, and behind the camera talent.
3rd PARAGRAPH Begin a brief overview of the plot. Please do not include key spoilers or surprise ending. Please do not include a scene by scene description of the film.
Next PARAGRAPH Briefly describe key scenes of the film, violence content, special effects, stunt work, combat scenes, or other standout info as applies.
Final PARAGRAPH Sum up the pros and cons of the film.

TECHNICAL REVIEW SECTION

1st PARAGRAPH Observation of video quality
2nd PARAGRAPH Observation of audio soundtrack(s)

OVERALL ASSESSMENT

FINAL PARAGRAPH & RATING Would you recommend this DVD for a purchase or rental? If not, how would you like to see the DVD's shortcomings improved? Also, assign the numeric ratings according to the tables above.

GOOD LUCK!
